To understand the reason of drooling in English bulldogs you have to look at their face. The big size of their face with all that hanging loose skin makes them drool. The dogs having more skin on the face drool more than those who have comparatively lesser skin. To hold the drool one needs to have a strong and muscular flesh on the face. This excess drooling in bulldogs causes them to develop dermatitis (skin infection) between their lip folds. It is actually caused by collection of saliva and food between the folds of the face skin. You may notice that the skin around the mouth and lips are stinking with a grayish brown coloration. Therefore, you should keep his skin near the mouth dry to help in reducing this problem.
Many bulldog owners have noticed themselves getting slightly wet when their pet comes near them and shakes himself. You can make use of napkin similar to 'baby bib' and tie it around your dog's neck covering his chest. This is a very good way of catching his drool.
